With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Dmitry Farbman has dedicated his career to helping clients build and preserve their wealth through personalized, trust-based financial strategies. Currently serving as a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor at RBC Wealth Management, Dmitry focuses on developing tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners. His commitment to clarity and transparency in wealth planning has earned him long-standing relationships with his clients, helping ensure their confidence in navigating complex financial landscapes.

Before joining RBC Wealth Management, Dmitry held senior roles at UBS Wealth Management, where he spent over a decade as Senior Vice President – Investments and Senior Portfolio Manager. His leadership and expertise in portfolio management enabled him to deliver customized investment strategies, grounded in a deep understanding of market trends and client goals. Dmitry’s experience also includes nearly 12 years at Wells Fargo Advisors, where he served as Vice President – Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager in the Private Investment Management (PIM) program, building custom portfolios for clients and overseeing investment strategies with a focus on risk management and growth.

Dmitry’s financial advisory career began at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, where he honed his skills in client relationship management and investment strategy development.

Dmitry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, Accounting, and Economics from the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and an MBA in Finance from the Keller Graduate School of Management. He also pursued further financial studies at Northwestern University’s School of Continuing Studies.

Background

Before entering the securities industry, David spent nine years as a professor at both Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He began his brokerage career at Paine Webber where he also served as manager of one of the local branch offices. He joined RBC Wealth Management in 1991.

Education

David holds a bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College, a master's degree from Florida State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also studied in France where he received a diploma from the University of Paris at the Sorbonne. He taught English at a local lycée (high school) while studying in Paris.

Business achievements

Over the years, David has been very active in communicating his thoughts and ideas to the investment and business community. He has given many seminars, been invited to speak to many business and community groups, written articles for the local newspaper, and is often interviewed by the local press. David has hosted his own radio show, “Inside the Stock Market,” and was a panelist on the television program “Buy, Sell, or Hold," and appeared for many years on "Ask An Expert."

Community involvement

David was a public official for 25 years in the villages of Long Grove and Buffalo Grove. He was elected to the local school board for 8 years, and served the following 17 years as trustee and President of the Board of Trustees of the Long Grove Fire Protection District. A former professor at Northwestern and Purdue universities, Dr. Klein served on many different committees related to his public positions. David now serves on the Advisory Faculty of IPPAC, the Illinois Public Pension Advisory Committee. He has written several newspaper articles and has been a guest speaker at many yearly conventions of IPPAC for Fire and Police pension board members. IPPAC recently awarded David a memorable plaque “for his contributions to IPPAC and continuing education for pension fund trustees.” For many years, David has returned to the University of Illinois with other leaders in the business community to participate in a symposium on the opportunities for students in the business and financial world.
