For nearly four decades, John has helped individuals and families navigate the financial decisions that shape their lives. His approach is grounded in a simple belief: before you can build the right financial strategy, you must understand the person behind it.
John graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Economics and moved to Austin in 1986 to begin his career in wealth management. Since then, he has built long-standing relationships with clients and, in many cases, helped guide multiple generations of the same families through periods of growth, transition, opportunity, and change.
His commitment to continued learning has remained constant throughout his career. John holds the securities and insurance licenses applicable to his practice and has pursued ongoing education in financial planning, including coursework through the University of Texas. He also earned RBC Wealth Management’s Advanced Wealth Manager designation, an advanced program focused on comprehensive wealth planning across accumulation, distribution, protection, enjoyment, and wealth transfer.
Life Beyond the office
Originally from the Pacific Coast, John has called Austin home since 1986 and has embraced the city’s music and downtown energy ever since.
Music is a particularly important part of his life. John has been a member of ACL Live at the Moody Theater since the venue opened downtown and attends 15 to 25 concerts each year with his two sons and friends. As he puts it, “I’ve been to so many concerts there, it feels like my living room.”
When he isn’t at a show, John can often be found outside. He is an avid gardener and birdwatcher who has spent years fostering a landscape filled with native Texas plants and trees. Catching sight of a Painted Bunting, Baltimore Oriole, or a flock of Cedar Waxwings making quick work of the Yaupon berries is “another day in paradise”.
John and his wife, Joyce, have been married for 44 years and enjoy hosting family and friends for dinner at their home. John readily contributes to the culinary operation, although he considers his greatest expertise to be post-dinner dishwashing.
For John, those moments are more than hobbies or traditions. They are a reminder of what thoughtful financial planning is ultimately meant to support: the freedom to spend more time with the people you love and doing the things that make life meaningful.
