Allen’s primary goal when working with clients is to make their life, and the life of their family, better through effective planning, investing and stewardship of their assets. He uses his experience to provide customized investment and wealth planning services to a variety of clients, including both individuals and businesses. Allen started his career in the financial services industry in 1985.
He originally studied chemistry in college and worked in the oil fields as an engineer until he was recruited by Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker trainee. He has more than 35 years of experience, previously working for investment fi rms including Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, RBC Wealth Management and UBS; and accounting fi rms J. Noonan & Company and Ketel Thorstenson LLP. Allen returned to RBC Wealth Management in 2020. He is a graduate of the University of South Dakota and passed the Series 3, 7, 9, 10 and 66 securities exams. Allen currently holds the Chartered Market Technician (CMT®) and Certified Portfolio Manager (CPM®) designations.
He has served the local community as vice chairman of the Custer County Housing and Redevelopment Board, past president of Black Hills Habitat for Humanity, a fi rst responder volunteer for Custer County Search & Rescue and a volunteer at The Storehouse, a 501c(3) organization that was started by his wife, Kim, to provide families in Custer County with food, clothing and household goods. Professionally, he also serves on the board of the Academy of Certified Portfolio Managers, a national organization whose mission is to educate investment managers and provide a process for professional certification.
Allen and Kim have three adult children and four grandchildren, and spend time between Texas, Colorado and Minnesota. Allen enjoys the outdoors and spends plenty of “adventure time” hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing. He and Kim enjoy travel, road trips to U.S. national parks, attending Red Sox baseball games in Boston and other MLB cities, reading and spending time with family.
