Since 1976, Hal has been working in the financial services industry as a financial advisor, and he has held several positions in management. Since entering the financial services industry, Hal has continued his education through a number of advanced training programs and seminars, including the Accredited Wealth Management (AWM) program and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) program. He is a member of the FINRA Board of Arbitrators and he earned his Bachelor of Arts in journalism and mass communications from the University of Minnesota.
Hal believes in the importance of investing time and effort into his community. He has been an active supporter of many organizations that focus on at-risk youth. He is a member of the Minneapolis Rotary Club chairing the World Community Service committee for many years. Hal also served three years as the District Rotary Foundation Chair, was a founding board member of the Rotary District 5950 Foundation and is past vice chair of the Minneapolis Rotary Club Foundation. Past affiliations include the University of Minnesota Alumni Association Audit and Finance Committee and on the University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Oversight Committee. He is the head coach of the boys varsity hockey team at Providence Academy High School in Plymouth, Minnesota. Hal recently concluded eight years on the board of directors for Minnesota Hockey as coach in chief and served three years at USA Hockey on the finance, audit and investment committee.
Hal is married to his wife, Lynn, and has two children. He is an accomplished photographer with many award-winning photos that have been featured around the country. In addition, Hal enjoys fly fishing, hunting upland game birds, skiing, scuba diving and playing guitar.
