Joe brings more than 30 years of experience to his clients in the areas of retirement plan and employee benefits issues. During his career, Joe worked as a pension auditor/investigator at the U.S. Department of Labor, Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration (PWBA), where he examined benefit plan activity for compliance with ERISA and DOL regulations. He then went on to be a senior actuarial consultant with the Segal Company and Watson Wyatt Worldwide in Detroit and Cleveland.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts degree from the University of Detroit and an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. He is a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS). Joe has also earned the designation of Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He previously held both the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA™) and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designations. Joe served in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of Captain. Joe has a long history of working for and with unions. He is a former truck axle machinist for UAW Local 174, a former assembly line worker for Dodge Main UAW Local 1, and a former senior gravedigger for Evergreen Cemetery–United Steelworkers–Local 14. He is a former member of the advisory committee of the Detroit Historical Museum. Joe was an industry arbitrator with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the enforcement authority for the securities industry.

Joe is an alumni member of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He served on the Advisory Board for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and served as outreach consultant for the American Academy of Actuaries. Joe lives in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and is a member of St. Hugo of the Hills Church and the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC).
