The Brian Kroneberger Financial Hour - May 25, 2019
On the most recent broadcast of The Brian Kroneberger Financial Hour, Brian gives an update on the markets and discusses the current and proposed changes to the Required Minimum Distribution laws. Under current laws, the IRS requires that you begin taking payments from your traditional IRAs, whether you need the money or not, starting in the year in which you turn 70.5. These withdrawals are called Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). Brian reviews the rules for RMDs as well as some strategies such as Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs). Brian also highlights several bills circulating in Congress that would usher in big changes to RMDs and retirement planning. The Retirement Security and Savings Act of 2019 was reintroduced this week and proposes raising the RMD age from 70.5 to 75. The bill would also make it easier for workers to save for retirement while repaying student loans.
