Dean's career in Wealth Management started in 2001, after selling his restaurant business in St. Paul, Minnesota where he was a managing partner. In 2003, Dean formed his former team, Legacy Group, with his father Edwin at a Minneapolis based brokerage firm before joining RBC Wealth Management in July of 2006.
In addition to passing his Series 7, Series 66 exams and holding his State of Minnesota insurance licenses, Dean has completed the Accredited Asset Management Specialist and Plan Distributions Specialist programs concentrated on Retirement Planning. In 2003, Dean passed the Series 31 exam for Alternative Investment Strategies; which includes managed futures and hedge fund of funds investments. July 15th, 2011 represented another milestone in education as Dean obtained the Accredited Wealth Manger (AWM) designation from The Estate and Wealth Strategies Institute at Michigan State University. In November of 2018, RBC Wealth Management invited Dean into the Consulting Group; a exclusive group of Financial Advisors that can offer full discretionary portfolio management under a fee based arrangement.
After studying Architecture at Arizona State University, Dean graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth ('87) with double Majors in English (writing emphasis) and Philosophy (Eastern Religions). In January, 1996 Dean completed the FastTrac program for Entrepreneurial Accomplishment from the University of St Thomas' Center for Entrepreneurship. Dean's passion outside of work is to guide paddlers and fishermen into Ontario Canada's Quetico Provincial Park and Minnesota's BWCAW. Since 2004, Dean has been involved at the University of Minnesota's Ronald McDonald House - Midwest Chapter - Cooks for Kids program, where he coordinates the procurement, pick-up, delivery and preparation of evening meals for the patients and families who reside at the house. In March of 2016, Dean accepted an appointment to sit on the Ronald McDonald House (Midwest Chapter) Investment Committee. He married in September of 2013 and now resides in Grant, MN with his wife Marthe and two boys Jack and Andrew.
