Jim graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He began his career at IBM as a design engineer and marketing representative. In 1988, he joined Tucker Anthony, now RBC Wealth Management. Jim is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. As a CFP® practitioner, he has completed extensive coursework in financial planning, retirement planning, estate planning, investment management, insurance and taxation. Jim also earned RBC Wealth Management’s professional designation of Accredited Wealth Manager (AWM).
Jim was named the RBC Wealth Management 2011 National Volunteer of the Year. RBC Wealth Management presents this award to one individual each year to recognize outstanding volunteer commitment and community service. Each week, Jim volunteers one full eight-hour day as the “Money Coach” for Jewish Family Services (JFS) of Greater Hartford, which is a non-sectarian social service agency helping individuals and families of all backgrounds deal with life cycle transitions and adversity.
Raised in West Hartford, Jim currently resides there with his wife, Amy. Their son, Noah, is a software engineer with a late-stage, pre-IPO tech company in San Francisco. Their daughter, Leah, attends Brown University and is majoring in applied mathematics. Jim enjoys sailing and is a member of Thames Yacht Club, where he competitively races his boat, GHOST. An active cyclist, hiker and former runner, Jim continues to be an exercise enthusiast.
