Prior to RBC, he pioneered and ran Alliance Bernstein’s family office practice, serving as the financial quarterback for significant families across the U.S. He previously advised ultra-high net-worth clients at JP Morgan, Montgomery Securities and as president of a hedge fund management firm. Ambassador Grayson also practiced law for ten years as a law firm litigator and corporate and government general counsel. He’s served in the administrations of five U.S. presidents, most recently as the US Ambassador and Commissioner General to the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan. For his leadership, he was honored as the 2025 Person of the Year in Japan by the American Chamber of Commerce of Japan. He’s also served in the Department of the Army, on the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, as Chairman of the Presidio Trust and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Ambassador to Estonia. Bill has served and chaired on investment committees and boards of trustees, including the Atlantic Council, University of Hawaii Foundation, National Park Foundation, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and UC Berkeley’s Institute for Governmental Studies. With his command of global capital markets and politics, and integrity in providing sound advice and solutions, Bill’s client relationships span generations. Ambassador Grayson is a regular speaker in the media and at global investment conferences, is a California State Bar member and holds the Series 7, 65 and 63 securities licenses. He’s a graduate of Saint Ignatius College Preparatory; University of California, Santa Barbara, University of San Francisco School of Law, and has a Defense Policy certificate from Harvard’s Kennedy School. He and his wife live in San Francisco and Rancho Mirage, CA, have three daughters and a rescue dog. In his spare time, he plays tennis and pickleball, golfs, skis, surfs, and runs the trails of the Presidio.
