Jim is a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired California Highway Patrol officer. The youngest of five, he was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he thrived with a Midwestern work ethic and strong sense of integrity. While in the Navy, Jim attended Central Texas College pursuing a degree in criminal justice. He was offered entry into a program leading to a commission as an Officer in the Navy but, because his wife, Kathe, was also on active duty, he opted to pass on the opportunity. After serving his country for four years, including an overseas deployment, Jim was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. He continued a life of service by joining the California Highway Patrol and spent seven years as a sworn officer before an on-duty injury forced him to retire.
He started his career in financial services with Morgan Stanley in Modesto, California, in 1994. Jim has passed the Series 7, 9, 10, 63 and 65 securities exams and holds California life, health and disability licenses. He has been a financial advisor with a bank, a brokerage firm and an independent financial firm. He has also been a branch manager and an assistant regional manager. Jim is a past member of the City of Modesto Affirmative Action Commission and served on the Central Catholic High School advisory board and corporate board. Family is at the center of everything for Jim. He has clients around the country but resides in San Diego to spend time near his children; Christopher & Miranda and Haylee & Conner and his grandchildren; Quinn & Major. In his free time, Jim enjoys golf, hiking, exercising, traveling, trying new restaurants that his daughter picks, reading economic reports, and sunny San Diego beaches and parks.
