My mission is to utilize the best people and resources available to help meet each of my client's needs. My objective is to educate clients on managing portfolio risk and assist them in implementing investment programs that incorporate multiple asset classes. I provide customized investment strategies to businesses, foundations and individuals who are seeking positive investment returns during periods of high volatility.
A difference in strategy
During nearly 40 years as a financial advisor, I witnessed two extended bull and bear markets. Although similar in duration, the overall market performances were measurably different. In each case, strategies that were successful in one secular market were typically less effective in the other. Though historically these differences are predictable, there is greater risk of underperformance if portfolios are not strategically structured for the current sustained trends. To more fully implement strategies that better manage existing and future market trends, we at RBC Wealth Management offer flexible investment programs with dynamic asset allocation. Depending on the client’s preference, I am able to engage a full spectrum of institutionally structured portfolios which can also include investments with very limited correlation to traditional stock and bond portfolios.
Wealth management approach
It is my observation that every individual, business or foundation has different needs and desires. My policy is to explore what clients need as well as what they expect in order to craft an investment strategy. The services in which I provide financial expertise are two-fold. For individuals, I begin with our estate planning services. Once those requirements are satisfied, I am able to blend trust services—both domestic and offshore—institutional asset management featuring access to hundreds of money management styles, alternative investments—which include investment styles that may benefit from advancing or declining markets— and favorable lending rates for RBC Wealth Management clients.
By virtue of employing investment strategies known as absolute return, I am able to assist clients seeking favorable returns during periods of stability as well as market volatility. I assist clients in recognizing major macroeconomic trend changes so that their financial assets may accomplish two objectives: to create and grow wealth during the accumulation phases and to protect and preserve wealth during the distribution phase.
For businesses and foundations, there are additional services from the RBC Wealth Management Executive Services department providing qualified plans, investment banking, corporate cash management and risk hedging.
Qualifications
I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978. After working in the energy industry, in 1983 I became a financial advisor serving individual clients, businesses and institutions. I passed the Series 3, 7, 9, 10, 63 and 65 FINRA exams, and also hold insurance licenses. I served on investment committees for The University of Texas at Austin as well as several local charities and church endowments. I also was a founding member of The Research Council at the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler.
Flexible investment strategy services
In addition to traditional asset management services, RBC Wealth Management has access to various third-party investment managers who can help clients implement the following strategies:
• Tactical asset management — equities and fixed income
• Non-correlated asset management — separate cumulative translation adjustment accounts, partnership structure accounts
• Hedging — energy, agriculture, equity, debt and currency.
