Chris is an investment advisor representative, focused on helping families and organizations define what is most important for them and structuring a plan to succeed. Based on the fiduciary focus of many of the our services, and to further ensure that your portfolio assets are being managed in keeping with sound investment practices, he received the Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation in 2006 and the following year earned RBC’s internal, professional designation of Accredited Wealth Manager (AWM). The AWM certification program, sponsored by RBC Wealth Management and Michigan State University, required completion of a core curriculum as well as ongoing, continuing education to maintain the designation. The educational content required for the designation provides advanced knowledge of the firm’s wealth management process, concentrating in the areas of business and retirement planning, insurance solutions, charitable giving, advanced investment strategies, and estate and trust planning concepts.

Chris received a Bachelor of Science degree in consumer science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and has passed the Series 7, 63 and 65 securities exams. He is licensed to provide life insurance, annuities and long-term care.

Prior to joining RBC Wealth Management Chris played professional hockey. He is an eight-time all-star and, as a financial advisor with RBC Wealth Management, brings the same commitment to excellence in serving our clients. The Tancill family—wife, Jill, and their three children, Megan, Jack and Nicholas—are residents of Madison, Wisconsin. A career in professional sports provided the family the opportunity to work and travel all over the world. In his free time, Chris enjoys golfing, traveling, skiing, reading and coaching hockey.

John R. Whalen, Jr., CIMA®

Prior to becoming a financial advisor, John was a vice president and wealth management consultant for RBC Wealth Management. Based in Chicago, he helped financial advisors and their clients identify strategies to accumulate wealth and convert that wealth to income. Before joining RBC Wealth Management in 2007, John spent 21 years in the financial services industry, holding executive positions involved in portfolio management, fixed income trading and retirement planning. He has significant experience working with individuals and boards in the foundation and endowment market, helping them understand their fiduciary responsibilities and assisting them in creating an investment policy statement and investment plan to meet those responsibilities. John’s skill set also includes in-depth experience meeting the unique needs of institutional investors and high-net-worth clients, with a focus on portfolio construction and investment manager analysis. In providing counsel to investors, he employs a planning discipline that helps identify needs, concerns, expectations, in addition to important commitments and goals. Additionally, his expertise includes retirement planning, insurance solutions, charitable giving strategies, as well as estate and trust planning considerations.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison, John received his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in finance, investments and banking. He holds an MBA in strategic management and entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago and earned the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation. He has passed the Series 7, 53 and 63 exams. John served as an adjunct faculty member at the College of Lake County, where he taught a variety of business courses and has spoken on wealth management topics at conferences and other events held across the country.

John and his family enjoy traveling, hiking and have a particular passion for skiing. He and his wife Adrienne have five adult children and eight grandchildren.

Garrett Jones

Garrett’s strong analytical skills and resourceful nature are invaluable attributes for the day-to-day administration of our client’s investment portfolios. His intellectual curiosity adds a respected dimension to the research and trading functions for our team’s investment committee and portfolio management. Garrett’s extensive experience with various data and research providers means we can quickly access the data we need to discuss an opportunity or challenge facing our clients.

Prior to his current career, Garrett was a touring professional golfer. He competed on the, NGA, eGolf, and Dakotas tours and accumulated more than 15 victories as a professional. He looks to bring the same commitment, work ethic and excellence into serving our clients. Currently he remains active as a golf professional with amateur status and competes regally in local, state and national golf events.

Garrett graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance, investments and banking. While in college, he was a four-year letter winner and a two-year captain on the UW Men’s golf team, and is currently involved with the team as a volunteer assistant coach. As a senior financial associate at RBC Wealth Management, he has passed the Series 7 and 66 FINRA exams and holds life and health insurance licenses.

Born and raised in Rewey, Wisconsin, Garrett has called Madison his home since moving here for college in 2003. In his free time, Garrett enjoys golfing, fishing, traveling, working out and seeing friends and family.

Linda joined RBC Wealth Management in 2015 and brings a high level of administration, as well as experience working with critical timelines and handling of confidential information. She has passed the Series 6 exam and is also licensed to provide life and health insurance. Before joining RBC Wealth Management, Linda worked for an independently owned veterinary pharmaceuticals company performing duties as an office manager with a concentration on employee benefits planning. She brings a great attitude, professionalism and project management that is beneficial to our clients.
