Mike brings 30 years of industry experience to the True North Investment Group. He joined RBC Wealth Management in 2001, and formed the Strehlow Enright Group with Ross Strehlow in 2007, which transformed into the True North Investment Group when Ross retired in 2018. Mike and his partners developed and refined the contrarian investment process that they use today. Within the True North team, Mike is the big-picture planner and risk manager. He is the person you call if you’re looking to retire and need to convert your wealth to income. Mike is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professional, a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®), and a Retirement Management Analyst (RMA). These certifications and designations demonstrate his advanced knowledge of wealth management and retirement income issues. His areas of expertise include retirement income strategies, strategic portfolio management, risk management, and wealth transfer strategies. Mike is also a frequent speaker on retirement income planning and Social Security claiming strategies.
A native Minnesotan, Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and his MBA from the University of St. Thomas. He lives in Stillwater with his wife, Shannon, and they have three children. When not working, Mike is usually on a bike or skis, and has completed numerous triathlons, including an Ironman triathlon. His volunteer activities include Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest, Caddie-U, and the SIFMA Foundation’s InvestWrite program. Mike is honored to have been named to RBC Wealth Management’s Chairman’s Council, and is humbled to have been named a Forbes Magazine/Shook Research “Best In State” Wealth Advisor for 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
