Financial advisor Laura Herrera provides an overview of the key items clients should discuss with their loved ones as they consider senior living options

The Hershey Group

As financial advisors we have the privilege of helping clients plan for and navigate through life changes. One topic that arises is around living arrangements, and whether clients see themselves staying in their own home for as long as possible or relocating somewhere that offers access to various services and support. In speaking with clients, family, and friends I hear that this decision and process can be overwhelming.

We recently hosted a Lunch and Learn for our clients. The topic was “Overview of Senior Living Considerations”, and the guest speaker was a specialist on this subject. We reviewed the different types of senior communities including Active Adult, Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing Facilities, and the types of services and benefits offered by each. We also learned about the average costs for the various types of living and care. The speaker provided information about Medicare and Medicaid and what is covered under these government benefits.

Everyone’s situation is unique and many factors including health care needs, personality and interests, and finances play a role in deciding about living arrangements. One thing is the same for everyone. The speaker shared, that regardless of your situation, it’s never too early to start the conversation. It’s good for you and your loved ones to know what your desires are so they can be properly implemented if a need arises.

The Hershey Group is here to provide support and assist in creating a solid wealth plan to help you achieve your goals.  Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to help you navigate this important consideration and other significant milestones you encounter during your lifetime.
