Tommy Miller joined RBC Wealth Management in September, 2009. In his ten years he has held many roles within the group he now leads developing the framework for their approach to comprehensive wealth management. Long before he entered financial services, Tommy learned the importance of financial management through personal life experiences.
Tommy grew up locally in Bethesda, Maryland. Despite a challenging upbringing due to his father’s death at a young age and his mother’s lifelong illness, he was able to develop a focused work ethic to aid in supporting his family and his future. By working in the service industry and managing local businesses Tommy cultivated discipline, patience and persistence that formed his core principles for today. While maintaining a busy work schedule, Tommy pursued an education and career in financial services to better utilize his skill set. Starting in January 2006, he would log close to 100 hours per week as a client service associate at Smith Barney, and in a restaurant, while also earning associated industry licenses- the Series 7, Series 66, and Life and Health Insurance.
Through experience, Tommy learned the guiding principles he gained over the years are key components for managing investment portfolios and are valuable to those seeking related professional advice. To further his expertise Tommy pursued two advanced professional designations. He is a CFA Charter holder (Chartered Financial Analyst). The CFA is a global, three level program with a focus on complex financial topics such as investment analysis, performance evaluation, risk assessment, security valuation, and portfolio management. Additionally, the CFA institute boasts a strong ethical commitment by members to clients of all types, securities markets, and the broader investment community. He also earned the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor designation (CRPC) from the College for Financial Planning, a program concentrated towards retirement strategies for individuals.
For recreation, Tommy enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, traveling and volunteering for animal welfare. Tommy and his wife are residents of Arlington, VA along with their dog, Sully.
