Consider depreciating 100% of newly acquired equipment costs

As a business owner, you’re challenged with many financial considerations and priorities. Developing a thoughtful tax plan can be advantageous to helping you realize returns on your investments. Consider taking advantage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act enhanced business incentive that expires at the end of 2022. 

Through December 31, 2022, as a business owner, you may depreciate 100% of the cost of newly acquired equipment in the first year of ownership; this doubles the previous limit of 50%. Expensing equipment reduces taxable income dollar for dollar. Interest on debt—such as a securities-based line of credit—used to finance an equipment purchase may also be tax deductible, creating a further dollar-for-dollar reduction of taxable income.
