Managing Director - Financial Advisor, Senior Portfolio Manager - Portfolio Focus


Steve began his career with Ferris, Baker, Watts (FBW), acquired by RBC Wealth Management in 2008, as a $3.65 an hour intern on September 19, 1979.  Over his 40-year career, Steve has managed portfolios for a wide range of individuals and families, striving to meet their investment and financial goals. Steve graduated with honors from George Washington University in 1981 and has passed the Series 7, 63, and 66 securities examss as well as the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation.  

Steve served on George Washington University’s Board of Trustees from 2006 - 2018. He also served as a Board Member for the Kennedy Institute in Washington, DC, serving children and adults with developmental disabilities. Prior to FBW’s merger with RBC Wealth Management, Steve was a member of FBW’s Board of Directors and Chaired its Retail Advisory Board.  Currently, Steve is a member of RBC Wealth Management’s Chairman’s Council, which recognizes the firm’s top 150 financial advisors, and serves on RBC Wealth Management’s Equity Leader Advisory Council.

Steve resides in Bethesda, MD, with his wife, Lori. They have two children, Jenna and Andy.  His interests and hobbies include participating in numerous sports, genealogy research,  and providing free plumbing advice to friends, family and clients, as he is a descendant of three generations of plumbing contractors.



Joanne Yecies

Joanne is a financial advisor with RBC Wealth Management and joined the Ross Group in 2020. She serves as a member of the portfolio team working with Steve, Billy and Matt on client portfolio construction, management and allocation. Prior to joining RBC Wealth Management, Joanne worked at Cambridge Associates, an institutional investment advisory firm, in a number of portfolio and relationship management roles. Joanne has passed the Series 7 and 66 securities exams and holds life and health insurance licenses. She has also passed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst exam.

A native of the D.C. area, Joanne grew up in Potomac, Maryland, and attended the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda. She received her B.S. in business administration with an emphasis on finance from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder and her M.S. in finance from the Kogod School of Business at American University.

Joanne currently serves as the Networking Events Lead for the Washington, D.C. chapter of the Ellevate Network, a women’s networking group. In her free time, Joanne likes to try new restaurants in her neighborhood, go to Washington Nationals games, and see live music. She currently resides in Washington, D.C. with her fiancé, Jason.

William D. Fort, CFA

Senior Business Associate


Billy is a Senior Business Associate with RBC Wealth Management and joined the Ross Group in 2003. He serves as the team’s senior portfolio analyst and works side by side with Steve on client portfolio construction, management, and allocation. Billy has passed his Series 7 and 66 security exams, and received the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2008. The CFA Charter is a rigorous qualification for investment professionals, particularly in the areas of client portfolio management and investment analysis.

A native of the DC area, Billy graduated from the Landon School in Bethesda, MD, and then headed to Cornell University where he earned a B.A in history in 2002. After graduating from Cornell, Billy lived abroad for one year, coaching and playing lacrosse professionally in England.

Billy is a board member of the Mario St. George Boiardi Foundation. George Boiardi, a life-long friend of Billy’s, died tragically during a lacrosse game in 2004, and a foundation was created in his honor, with a mission of promoting youth through academics and athletics. During his free time, Billy enjoys playing or coaching various sports. He currently resides in Bethesda, MD with his wife, Tricia, daughter, Laura, and son, William.

Renee Floro, CFP®

Senior Investment Associate


Renee joined the Ross Group in 2013, and has worked in the financial services industry for 19 years. She plays a multi-faceted role on the team; as head of operations and client service, Renee provides all operational and administrative support to our clients. As a team member with the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM  designation, she also works with our clients to understand their unique financial circumstances and create a customized financial analysis. This includes recommendations to help them meet their specific goals through insurance planning, retirement income analysis, and other financial planning techniques. Renee works closely with our clients to implement the recommended strategy.

Renee earned a Bachelor’s degree in finance from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. Since graduating in 2001, she has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certificate from Georgetown University. The multi-year CFP® program entails in-depth courses, training, and comprehensive examinations in all areas of financial planning including investments, taxes, insurance, estate, and retirement planning. Renee has passed the Series 7 and 66 exams and holds state insurance licenses. Renee resides in Alexandria, VA, with her husband, Marcus, daughter, Carmen, and son, Dylan.

Matthew Miller

Senior Financial Associate


Matt is a Senior Financial Associate with RBC Wealth Management and joined the Ross Group in 2015. He serves as a member of the portfolio team working on client portfolio construction, management, and allocation. Prior to joining RBC Wealth Management, he worked at FBR Capital Markets in its Institutional Equity Sales & Trading group and then at Fannie Mae as part of its Fixed Income Securities Marketing group. Matt has passed his Series 7 and 66 security exams.


Born and raised in the D.C. area, Matt is from Laytonsville, MD, and graduated from Good Counsel High School.  He attended Cornell University where he graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in communication, concentrating in applied economics and management. While attending Cornell, Matt was a four year member of the Varsity Baseball team, and served as captain of the team his senior year. 


Matt earned his MBA in finance and investments from The George Washington University in 2012 and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Finance at GW.  He teaches an applied securities analysis class, which allows students to analyze companies and manage a real-money equity investment portfolio.

During his free time, Matt enjoys teaching, cheering on D.C. professional sports teams (as well as his beloved Baltimore Orioles), and playing basketball and golf. He currently resides in Alexandria, VA with his wife, Carolyn, and son, Liam.
